My Gramps
I hope I have at least one reader out there. If you are there, friend, please consider returning. I cannot guarantee that you will always be interested by what you see, but I can guarantee that you will see something. And I can almost guarantee that I will be interested in what you see.
Tonight I have chosen to tell you about my Great Great Great Grandfather, William Summerfield Dobson. He faught in the Civil War and afterwards moved to Texas (from Georgia). Once in Texas, he was a farmer and a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church. He lived in the small town of Audubon, Texas. Audubon was named after the famous bird watcher.
Audubon was close to Alvord, Texas. I think that the newspaper Audubon got was the Alvord, Texas paper. In the town there was a doctor and a blacksmith. The doctor and my grandfather were the first people in town to own a car, so the story goes.
There is a lot more to learn about old William. He was a character. Maybe you have thought about digging into your roots. I would suggest that you do. Many people do not realize the history that their family has. You may have royalty, soldiers, preachers, and who knows what else in your family line. I will leave you with one more glimpse into William’s life. This is a picture of him with his daughter, my Great Great Grandmother. I will be posting more about Grandpa Dobson soon.
