Gaming Is Destroying Our Kids
Oh, shut up! That is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard. I will give you the fact that laying around playing games makes kids fat. We do need to limit the amount of time our kids play games. However I will not resign myself to the notion that games are altogether bad for kids.
There are games out there that help kids with their development. That is one of the things I like best about the Open Source movement. It has brought us many “edutainment” titles that help further learning. But not all gaming should be learning. After all, gaming is used for entertainment and relaxation.
By the way, games don’t kill kids, idiots do. People with frustration and a tendency to be stupid kill people. I firmly believe that any kid who commits any crime and claims he learned it from a game is a delusional freak and needs to admit that he/she has a tendency to be stupid or maybe even some mental issue which drives them in that direction. The game is a game. It is no more destructive than any of the movies most parents let their kids watch. By the way, PG-13 is not really suitable for 13 year olds.
People need to stop looking for places to put the blame when it comes to behavior problems with kids and young adults. Some kids rebel against authority. Some parents are lousy and don’t spend time with their kids and teach them well. Some times people are just stupid. But that doesn’t mean that just because the crime commited was also found in a game that the kid did it for that reason. It is easier to blame a company than an individual or family.
