TechTV, Leo Laporte, and the Rest of the Screensavers Team
One of my commenters pointed out in a previous post a podcast that is produced by Leo Laporte of TechTV’s “The Screensavers” fame. I am very familiar with all of Leo’s work including the security podcast that he provides. I thought I would take the time to rant a little bit about the circumstances involving TechTV.
When I first got cable in Prattville, Alabama, I was overjoyed to see the offering of a channel called TechTV. It truly was tech tv, but it was more. It was a geeks dream of television. They showed everything on this channel from modding a computer case out of cardboard to hacking your IPod and Xbox. They had shows that did reviews on new tech gear and went to all of the geek tradeshows. Two of the most popular shows on this station were “Call for Help” and “The Screensavers”. Leo Laporte was one of the hosts for both shows. Kevin Rose, of Digg fame, was also a host of “The Screensavers”.
Well, a couple of years ago, a company centered more around gaming than true tech in a general form bought out TechTV. They tried to merge the gaming stuff in for a while and then just dropped the mainstream tech for all out gaming information. The only non-gaming show at this time is really “Attack of the Show”. This show is interesting, but not a replacement.
So, I would just like to say to G4, thanks for all of your crap! Thanks for messing up the only channel on tv I really liked to watch in the first place. I hope that Leo and his gang (I am sure they would not like being referred to this way) come back in their own rights and squash your stupid little gaming channel. And yes, I like games, but not enough to devote a whole channel to it. I also like fried okra, but I don’t think this one vegetable deserves its own show!
