Keep in mind that this post is my opinion and that you do not have to agree with anything I say. Also keep in mind that I do not really care if you agree with me. I am also free to have my own opinion about things. And I do have an opinion on this subject.
I am not saying that I completely agree with the father in this case, and he is certainly intitled to speak his mind on the subject given his perspective on this type of issue, but I do think there is a problem in our schools. Schools ae not safe places for our children to learn anymore. I think a lot of the reason for that is highly dependant upon the father’s statements. We no longer value life in this country. We allow abortions when there is a heart-beat, and much more. We allow people’s lives to be snuffed out when they are determined by some third party to be useless or have no “quality of life”.
We no longer teach respect in our schools and teachers fear taking any disciplinary actions due to frivilous lawsuits. Parents blame teachers and teachers blame administrations and lack of funding. The truth is there are far more problems in our schools than we can count on one hand. It will take years to fix what we have broken. In this time of political correctness and self expression we allow things to go on in our schools that undermind the ideals and models of the past. I am not referring to the 1960s or 1970s. I think things were pretty well under control before that time. Somehow, we got the idea that children deserve to express themselves in which ever way they choose. We somehow think that a child talking back to a teacher is his “reaching out for help”. This phsycobabble is tearing our nation up. When a child talks back to an adult, it is called disrespect. This is not a cry for help. There was a time when it was not allowed.
We allow kids to go to school with their pants at their knees. We do not require anything of them. We merely let our school systems put up with them until they move on. I am not very old, but I remember when the school principle or even a teacher would paddle students. Yes, that means that he or she would take a wooden board and thrust it against the backside of a child. The “backside” is the padded rump area just below the lower back. It was made thick for a reason. It is a learning device and I remember a lot of the lessons I was taught there. I am just so happy that we no longer warp our happy, disrespectful, self-expressive kids anymore by hitting them with sticks. That was a joke. I am thankful that people cared enough about me to not let me be an idiot. Don’t get me wrong, those lessons hurt at the time, but I wouldn’t trade them in to be stupid now.
I won’t even get started about privacy again. You remember those Columbine kids had spent time building devices in the garage. Where were mom and dad during this time. Parents, please check up on your kids. I work hard to make sure my kids don’t cause you or your family any problems by making sure that I know what they are doing with their time. Free time can get kids into a lot of trouble. Keep your kids busy. The world is changing and not all for the better. Be aware of what is going on in your world, your local school system, and your community. You may think you live in a quiet town, but it’s not quiet anywhere all the time.
