Taking the Plunge
I have tried a couple of times in the past to do a full-blown move to Linux. I currently dual-boot and use Windows only for gaming. I do not like Windows and and I do not like Microsoft’s licensing schemes. I really do want to move to a Linux only environment. In the past, I was very much into gaming. I played a few games, but I played them religiously.
I have now suddenly got to the point where I do not play at all some weeks. Therefore, now may be the time for my move. I think I may be loading Slackware back on the old computer tonight. I know I can have all my stuff working on Linux. I have done very well in making all of my hardware work in a Linux environment.
And for those of you who are dying to tell me about Transgaming’s Winex/Cedega project, don’t. I am a card-carrying member and to this point, I am not all that thrilled with the product. I think it is a good idea, but it is not native gaming for the Linux operating system. I want game manufacturers to give me native Linux games.
The only other thing I am using my computer for right now is genealogy research. There are plenty of open source and web-based alternatives to Windows genealogy software. So, tonight I may just take the plunge and see where the penguin takes me. I might just see how far the rabbit hole really goes…
